Reconstruction and Renovation of Villa Martin, a Faculty Building for the Universität Erfurt in Erfurt
Through comprehensive reconstruction and renovation measures, a new site for the Catholic Theology Faculty at Universität [University of] Erfurt has been created from a former factory villa.
Retaining the historic arrangement of the space and structures was attempted for this project. At the same time, individual aspects were supposed to be integrated into the building’s new usage.
The faculty’s representational functions should occur on the ground floor in a generous meeting and convention room with the re-constructed, former dining room.
The upper story accommodates the offices for the professors and other scientific employees.
The cellar will be similarly used for working offices after the comprehensive renovation work has been completed. This has been made possible through the lowering of the property surface and increasing the windows.
Special attention has been played on restoring the original construction materials during the renovation. Scrupulous preparation of the interior of the former library and the main stair house has proven to be an much-discussed testimonial.
